Friday Book Review

Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons, Book One) by Sarra Canon

Rate:  4& 1/2 out of 5 Stars

Basic Summary:  Troubled teen named Harper who's had a history of 'strange episodes' is shuffled off to a half-way house for girls in her deceased mother's long-ago home town.  After only a short time, she realizes that she's not the only person in Peachville who's 'strange', but her belated acceptance and sudden, bizarre rise to popularity as a Peachville High Demons cheerleader comes at a price.

Opinion: No matter how old I get, it seems I'll always enjoy a good paranormal fiction geared toward the YA crowd. Though this was a quick read, I didn't find it to be lacking for much in the way of storyline or depth of the characters. I, personally, felt a little more of the magick could have been delved into, but in all honesty, I'm only in the middle of the second book of this series, so I can't say that this is an issue throughout.

In my review for this on Amazon. com, I struggled with whether to give this the full five stars or leave it at four (since they really don't have 1/2 grades there) but then I did enjoy the book and I didn't feel "ugh, I don't really want to read the next one, but I kind of 'need' to know what happens next" that I've encountered with some other books (it is an odd feeling to not be enjoying what you're reading, yet compelled to plow through it anyway) when I moved on from the end of #1 of this series to the beginning of #2. I also didn't trip over glaring errors that I can recall or inconsistancies and I'm usually very picky in my reading.

5 stars had been my ranking for this on Amazon, but I will say that the one thing that, in hindsight could have been dealt with differently was the first person narration would possibly have fit the book better in present tense-without giving any spoilers- there is something that occurs within the story that seems a little hard to go with in past-tense telling.  So, I'll leave the ranking for this at 4 &1/2 stars.

I think with next week's review, I will be posting a list of the books on my TBR list (my Kindle's virtual shelves, XD), so that if you don't see something on there that you think I should read (for enjoyment is fine, it doesn't have to be for a review, 'cause really, who's listening to me, anyway?), please feel free to suggest it.

Have a wonderful weekend!
